Dec 5, 2018Monticello.There will be no formal service. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. From 3 to 5 p.m., there will be a short gathering at Three Ravens, 108 S. Charter St., Monticello, a place Alan and Leslie spent many happy hours. Burial will be held at a later date.Alan was the son of Gene H. and Karen M. (Rawley) Rankin of rural Gibson City. He was born Aug. 9, 1961, in Gibson City. He married Leslie (Frillman) on Sept. 24, 1988, in Champaign.Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Miles Rankin of Big Sky, Mont., and Seth Rankin of Savoy. He loved his boys more than life itself. He is also survived by his mother, Karen; brother, Keith Rankin; and sister, Pam Rankin (husband Jeff Schwanke), all of Gibson City.He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Claude and Neva (Reed) Rankin of Gibson City and Renos and Mildred (Frederick) Rawley of Champaign.Alan graduated from Gibson City High School in 1979 and the University of Illinois in 1987 with a degree in economics. Alan worked at the University of Illinois, Facilities and Services, in their Financial Services Department.Alan thought it was an abomination that any child in Piatt County should ever go hungry.
